I chose to read a book called "The Whale Rider".Its about a girl called Kahu Paikea , a 12-year-old maori girl who wants to become the chief of the tribe in her village. Paikea was given away by her father to her grandfather because her mother died while  giving birth to her and her father was not expecting a daughter so he abandoned her. Her grandfather Koro believes that the role of chief should belong only to a boy or a man. Pai struggles to prove her grandfather wrong.
Paikea also has a special ability to communicate with whales, she has had a special connection with them since she was a child.
She tries to learn the traditional dances of her tribe with her brother but she gets caught and punished  by her grandfather every time.
This book has been one of my sisters and mothers all time favourites. The book and the movie have won several awards and they were/are both very successful.

Breaking Dawn

Breaking Dawn
By Stephenie Meyer

I read the first part of  the Breaking Dawn series from "The Twilight Saga" which is one of my favourite books and movies, and since the movie for the second part came to the cinemas around two weeks ago I thought it would be a good opportunity to read the book as well.
The series overall is about a girl named Bella and a vampire called Edward who fall in love.In this book it is basically about how they end up getting married and how Bella's friend (Jacob)who is also in love with her reacts and has to accept their marriage  On their honeymoon when Bella(the girl) was supposed to become a vampire too,and Bella ends up accidentally getting pregnant while she was still human creating a Half Vampire-Human child whose birth could kill Bella. So basically it talks about the process and the adventures and risks they have to take to save both Bella and the child who is later to be named Renesmee after the mothers of Edward and Bella.

Bridge to Terabithia

Bridge to Terabithia
by Katherine Paterson
The book is about a boy called Jess who did not have many friends until he became friends with the new girl in his class called Leslie who happened to live a few miles away. They became best friends quickly and created an imaginary forest  called "Terabithia" where they built a tree-house and played everyday after school, and went to church together every Sunday even though Leslie never goes to church.Everybody always stared when they walked by,but that was not because they were mean or anything they were just different but they had  a lot in common.

Meanwhile Jess is fighting and training to be the best and fastest runner in his class until Leslie came along. So everyday they would race  to the river, and swing over with the old rope swing someone had left hanging for children to play. One day Jess is told that Leslie had gone to the forest alone and the rope swing had broken. She had hit her head and died, and Jess had lost his only friend and suddenly everything was different.
